Emily and me (Part 7)

I woke up early and made some coffee. Our time here at the cabin was almost over. I couldn’t believe it. It seemed like it was just yesterday that we’ve arrived here for our time to get to know each other. But it was enough time for me to know that I wanted her for the rest of my life. I am going to marry this girl, and make her life a dream come true. Emily, Natalie and me, together forever.

Emily awoke and sat up on the wonderful couch where we made love the night before. “Did you save any coffee for me baby?” I walked over to the kitchen and poured her a cup. I said to her, “I’m going into town on some business this morning baby.” Emily smiled and said, “What business could you have here baby, you’ve never been here before.” I smiled. I didn’t tell her my plan yet. I was going into town to look for the local Realtor. I was going to buy this cabin along with all the furniture, sailboat, everything. Emily and I are going to live here after we get married.

I drove into town looking for a Real Estate sign of some sort. Since I couldn’t speak German, I only had my eyes to go on. I drove around this quaint little town for what seemed like hours. Finally, I saw what looked like a Realtor s office. I walked in and asked if anyone here spoke English. Thankfully an older gentleman spoke up and said, “Yes, young man. I speak English. What can I do for you?” I said, “Do you know the cabin at the lake with the dock and the sailboat?” With a smile, he answered, “Why yes young man. That is owned by Carl Schmidt. I know him very well.” Relieved, I said, “Tell him I want to buy his cabin. I will give him any fair offer.” The old Realtor just smiled. I wondered what he was thinking. “Young man, I just happen to know that Carl is ready to sell that property. He has been meeting with me about it for the last three weeks. He is a cautious man and wants everything to be just right. I think we can work something out.” I gave him my cellphone number and headed back to the cabin. When I got there Emily was by the beach reading, as usual.

“Hey baby where have you been for so long?” asked Emily. “I told you I was in town for a meeting” I replied. “What was your meeting for baby?” she asked. “I’ll tell you all about it later.” She was so impatient. I wanted to wait until evening to tell her. I hoped she would be pleased.

The day was rolling by. The blue sky was full of white puffy clouds. There was a light breeze blowing and it was the perfect temperature. Just another typical day at our cabin oasis. Emily was happy to be in the sun reading her book. She loved to read every chance she could. I swear she could become a literary critic and be famous someday. I loved sitting on the dock watching her read. I would know when she hit a good part because the side of her mouth always curled in a Mona Lisa smile. Nothing full on, just a pleased look on her face.

As I was about to get lost in her, my phone rang. It was Carl Schmidt. “I understand you want to buy my cabin.” he growled. “Yes sir, I do” I answered confidently. “If you want it, you will have to pay my price. That cabin holds a life time of memories for me”. I almost detected a tear in his eye as he was trying to be all hard with me. He loved that cabin. “Mr. Schmidt, I told the Realtor that I would pay any reasonable price.” “OK young man, meet me in the realty office tomorrow morning and we will make all the arrangements. Don’t be late.” He was trying to sound so tough, but I knew he was a nice old man who was hurting at the thought of selling his memories.

All I could think about now, was owning that cabin. This would be the place where we could build our life to together. I walked all around looking over every square inch. Was I really doing this? Is this what I really want? I asked myself every question three times. I always came up with the same answer. Yes, I wanted this more than anything in the world. I was going to marry Emily and help her raise Natalie. We are going to be a family. I’m going to make a good life for them and take care of them for the rest of my life.

The sun was beginning to set, so I gathered some firewood and built a nice fire on the beach. I figured we could get some blankets and eat some smores. It was starting to cool down, so Emily went into the cabin to change into some oversize sweats. She looked so cute in those baggy pants. She had her hoodie up over her head. I yelled out “It’s not that cold yet pretty girl.” she just smiled and started running to me. She didn’t stop until she jumped into my arms and started kissing me all over my face. “Why so many kisses baby?” I asked with a big smile. “I just wanted you to know how much I love you. I never want you to doubt that.” I just kissed her with a long passionate kiss. “I love you too Emily”.

We just sat there wrapped up in our blankets looking at the lake. It couldn’t be more beautiful. “Emily” I said weakly. “I’m putting an offer on the cabin tomorrow.” She just looked out from her hoodie and smiled. Then she hugged me and rolled me backward onto the sand. “You are?” she exclaimed. “Baby how did you know? How did you know I wanted to keep this cabin?” Emily just kept kissing me over and over. It was good to know that we were on the same page. I was worried that she would disapprove. I couldn’t have been more wrong. We just sat there holding each other close and listened to the sound of the fire and the waves lapping against the beach. Tomorrow was going to be a big day.
